Sprint IP Relay

You can use any computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone to communicate with anyone using the Sprint IP Relay service! This service is designed for people who are Deaf, Hard or Hearing, DeafBlind or those with a Speech Disability. The relay operator reads aloud the message you typed to the other party and types the other party’s spoken message and background sounds, if any, to you.

Directory Assistance

Rhode Island Relay will relay Directory Assistance (DA) calls between TTY users and the Local Exchange Carrier (LEC) DA operator.​ Once the caller makes the DA request, the relay operator will contact the appropriate DA operator.​ After obtaining the number, the call may choose to place the call through relay or dial it directly TTY to TTY.


Voicemail/Answering Machine Retrieval Service

You can use the relay service to retrieve messages from voicemail or answering machines.

Voicemail Retrieval: 
When you request the relay operator to retrieve messages from a voicemail system, the relay operator will follow your instructions for dialing, pin entry, access codes, and/or system commands to retrieve new messages, play messages, save, and/or delete messages.

Answering Machine Retrieval (AMR):
When a you request the relay operator to retrieve messages from an answering machine at your location, simply type “AMR GA” then follow the instructions from the relay operator.


International Relay Service

605-224-1837

You can make international calls through Rhode Island Relay by dialing 711 or any Rhode Island Relay toll-free relay number.

People outside the US wanting to call you should dial 605-224-1837 to reach a relay operator. 

International Relay service is available in English and Spanish.


Federal Relay

The Federal Relay Service is the contracted Federal Government Telecommunications Relay Service through the General Services Administration (GSA) for Federal employees who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, DeafBlind, or have Speech Disabilities.

This contract provides a package of functionally equivalent communication access services so that Federal employees may conduct official duties. The general public may also conduct business with the Federal Government and its agencies. Calls are relayed using trained Communication Assistants.

Federal Relay is available in two forms:

  • Telephone-based Services
  • Text Telephone (TTY)
  • Speech to Speech (STS)
  • Captioned Telephone (CapTel)

Internet-based Services

  • Video Relay Service (VRS)
  • Video Remote Interpreting (VRI)
  • Internet Protocol (IP) Relay
