BACKGROUND
- For over twenty years, the client currently based in Maryland has been providing employees and managed care plan members affordable, convenient access to health clubs, with the goal of encouraging and facilitating healthier lifestyles.
- The client was in need of a social health network along with a health risk assessment (HRA) portal that will educate, facilitate and create health awareness among its users and visitors. The portal would provide different services for different actors working on the portal.
SCOPE
- Benchmark's goals was to create a fitness-centric community portal offering all the benefits of a social networking website and a health risk assessment tool to meet all fitness-related goals. The site would need to address these specific target areas:
- Provide easy navigation with high browser compatibility to ensure access for users of all experience.
- Be robust and scalable for future site expansions and additions.
- The portal will be developed around three specific user types, the employee, the fitness expert, and the site administrator.
- Easy to use calendar to track events and important milestones.
- Simple methods to communicate with members and fitness experts.
- Secure and safe website for users to entire personal and confidential information.
- White labeling for resale.
SOLUTION
- A fully customized solution was built from the ground up to address all of the client requirements and concerns. Provide a robust framework for supporting the smooth functioning of a comprehensive community portal accessed by thousands of users simultaneously. The finished platform is a place where users go to learn more about achieving health and happiness while meeting like-minded people, new friends, and fitness experts who can help them to enhance the quality of their lives. The completed system provides the following features to its users
- A fully functioning administrative back office management module that can be custom branded for each company’s colors, logo, and messaging. In addition, administrators can also customize the settings, required fields, and sections of the program that are available to participants. The admin also has a complete analytic section for tracking and managing the performance of the site.
- Each health clubs can create and manage their own profile.
- Users are able to assess their health fitness with a custom health risk assessment survey and reporting tools. They will are also able to track their health activities and goals to inspire and motivate them.
- Extensive options for users to create an accurate profile in order to facilitate the sharing of tips, exercise modules, diet information etc. the site offer a range of conveniences such as photo uploading, mail, blogs and fitness forums, among others.
- Registered users are provided with the facility to locate and find other registered users using a zip code radius search tool. They are able to locate others registered on the system with similar fitness-related goals, helping them to cooperatively achieve their goals together through sharing of experiences and knowledge.
- Users can also use and interactive map of health location and/or health professionals.
- Provided an internal communication platform to talk privately with fitness experts and other users.
- Engage participants with ongoing communication and educational health information in a simple and easy to understand format such as videos, forum, calendars, blogs, etc through RSS feeds.
- A challenge section is available to create contests such as “Weight Loss”. Users are able to register for the contests and track their progress and results online. They are capable of performing the challenges on their own or by forming groups in order to maximize their chances to winning.
- Users are provided with a fully functioning calendar module which helps to keep track of company, employee or fitness expert organized events.
- Fitness experts can upload articles for review and comments by users.
- Provided facilities to safeguard the privacy and security of information users will enter on the portal.
TECHNOLOGY
- The portal was developed using SEO friendly guidelines to ensure high visibility for the site over the internet. Web usability guidelines were also adhered to during development and the interface was made easily navigable through the use of AJAX, CSS and HTML controls. The site was developed and fully functional within a span of 6 months.
