A person who is Deaf, hard of hearing, DeafBlind or who has a speech disability can use a TTY to type their message, which is read aloud to the other hearing caller by a relay operator. The relay operator types the spoken message of the hearing caller to the TTY user. Based on the TTY user’s preference, Relay Operators may adjust the text transmission speed from 5 words per minute (WPM) to 60 WPM.
