People with a speech disability, or those who use a voice synthesizer, can use their own voice on a STS relay call. The Relay Operator, a specially trained to understand unique speech patterns, repeats the words exactly as they are spoken to their caller.

How Does STS Relay Work?

    The STS user speaks directly to the other party.

  • 2

    The Relay Operator repeats the STS user’s spoken words if needed.

  • 3

    The other party talks directly to the STS user.

Other STS Features

The Relay Operator specializes in all types of STS calls, such as STS to TTY, STS to VCO, or STS to HCO. With this service, you may have to specify your call type to the relay service.

STS to TTY  

The STS user can speak to the Relay Operator . Then the Relay Operator types what the STS user says to the TTY user. Whatever the TTY user types goes back to the Relay Operator who will read aloud to the STS user.

STS to VCO  

The STS user can speak to the Relay Operator . Then the Relay Operator types what the STS user says to the VCO user. The VCO user can speak directly to the STS user.

STS to HCO

The STS user can speak to the HCO user. The Relay Operator may repeat what the STS user says to the HCO user if needed. Whatever the HCO user types goes back to the Relay Operator who will read aloud to the STS user.

 


My Email Set Up

The Email Set up feature allows STS users to send an email with call instructions or information to the Relay Operator in advance. STS users can complete this form online between 2 and 24 hours prior to the call. The form includes information such as:

  • The number to call
  • The name of the other caller
  • Special instructions
  • The subject of the call
  • and/or anything that makes it easier to complete the call.

  • Frequently dialed numbers
  • Emergency numbers
  • Preferred gender of operator
  • Announcing relay service
