WEB BASED DIARY PLANNER FOR CANCER PATIENTS

Online diary for cancer patients and their caregivers to get organized and become more informed in order to fight their cancer.

  • The client, an organization devoted to helping cancer patients, had the mission to help other cancer patients and their caregivers get organized and become more informed in order to fight their cancer.
  • The client needed an online diary and planner in order to meet this mission.
  • The planner application needed to mirror the printed all-cancer planner that the organization supplies to patients.
  • The planner application must be sustainable and flexible to build on over time.
  • The planner will also need to be sustainable year-over-year and built with the ability to make annual content updates and additions without touching code.
  • The planner application must offer the highest level of privacy and security.
  • Application must be internet based so users after going online can directly work with the application without needing any downloads.
  • Be able to track the usage statistics using Google analytics.
  • Make the application architecture in such a way that in the future, it could be extended to any mobile platform easily.
  • Created a calendar that allows users to manage all appointments, medications and medical bill payment schedules.
  • Provided the facility for the system to be able to schedule reminder alerts via email notifications and SMS alerts for appointments, to take medications, to refill prescriptions and pay medical bills.
  • The appointments listed in the calendar section will automatically be synchronized with the medical bill tracker to simplify the management of all medical bills.
  • Built a symptom tracker that is integrated into the calendar module which allows users to enter symptoms daily and track patterns in how they are feeling and have the patients be able to share the results with their doctors by emailing custom reports and graphs.
  • A robust notes section was built to allow users to enter important notes and organize them by date and subject.
  • An address book was provided to list and keep track of important contacts such as doctors, insurance carriers, nurses, referrals, support groups, new cancer buddies, wig shops and much more. The address book is also synched with MS Outlook.
  • Developed a medical bill tracker module which helped the patient to stay organized and track all doctor appointments and paperwork in the medical bill tracker. Appointments listed in the calendar section are automatically added to the medical bill tracker module so the user can fill out the medical expenses and mail them in.
  • Users are able to use the planner to keep track of their medical history and test results all in one convenient location and be able to quickly and efficiently refer back to this information during surgeries, tests and treatments over the years.
  • Patients were provided with the facility to create a task list and be able to assign it to someone else to complete.
